Half a gallon of paint goes a long way!

One more room painted! Only 2 bathrooms to go, plus an office and the BASEMENT....but at least the basement won't be done for a few months. So we'll tackle the paint job down there in the spring. I love how the color came out. It is called "bluegrass". It reminded me of the ocean with the pops of white in the bathroom so I printed off some beach pictures of the kids in Kodiak and put them on tiles, hung them on the wall, added some sand dollars, and beach glass that I collected while living in Alaska. It's an Alaskan Beach theme, lol. Yeah, I wouldn't have thought Alaska had beaches either until I moved there! Some of our best memories living up there were spent out at Gibson Cove or Manoshka Bay.
I didn't take a before pic because the fixtures were all the same. The only difference is the paint and wall decorations. The base paint that the builders use in these new homes is HORRIBLE. Flat, doesn't wash well, shows everything. So we've been steadily painting every room. I still have over half a gallon of paint left, so I think I may use it for the boy's bathroom up stairs or maybe one of the smaller rooms in the basement. Who knows. It'll be nice to have enough to do another project---free.
Total spent on this bathroom make-over $25. Just paint! I scrounged up my little accessories from around the house. Sweet!

  2. How did you put the photos on tiles? I love that idea - my contractor left a box of white tiles for me!

  3. luv2felt, I couldn't find an e-mail address for you so I'll just post this here. I hope you see it! All you do to attach the photos is use a coat of mod podge! That's it! Brush on a layer, lay your photo on top and let it dry. Then brush on another coat to water proof it. I used some heavy duty glue/apoxy to attach the ribbon to the back since the tiles can be heavy. They are so easy to make and make great gifts!

  5. I hear ya on the builder paint! We asked about picking out our own colors when they painted our new-build home (hey, they were going to be painting anyways, right?) and it was $4000!!! For them to put a different color than builder beige in the paint machine!
Your bathroom looks lovely and fresh!

  6. Nice! You're lucky that paint went that far. It seems like whenever I've painted over builders' stuff, it just soaked up the good paint.
