I Spy Box

I've been wanting to make a "I Spy" bag for the kids for a while now. The ones with the clear window to look through and they have to search for a list of things by shaking the bag. Well, I haven't ever gotten around to it, and when I saw some of the fun sensory tubs on Chasing Cheerios it gave me an idea!
I filled a tub with black beans (just like on Chasing Cheerios) then hid a bunch of toys and small craft objects among the beans.
I gave the kids a chart with a sample object, a box to check it off after they have found it, and the number of objects they need to find.

They LOVE LOVE LOVED it! It entertained them forever! Kaylee really liked it too. She enjoyed holding the beans in her hands and also discovered that they make an amazing sound when being flung off the table and onto the floor.
Poor little thing was banned after I couldn't keep her from stuffing beans into her mouth.
Maybe in a few months she'll be ready to join us for longer than 5 minutes! We will definitely be doing this regularly!
Oh, and YES there were beans everywhere!!!

  3. I love the idea of an I Spy Box! And the chart is great for adding some math skills! Thanks so much for linking up with Montessori Monday. It would be great if you could add the Montessori Monday button to your post to help others join in the fun! I featured your post at the Living Montessori Now Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/LivingMontessoriNow

  4. We've done sensory boxes similar to this, I love the search idea for the older children. One thing I do is place the box on the floor in the middle of a large flat sheet, then when they are done the clean up is easier. First time to your blog, love it!
