Father's Day Shirt Cards

The boys worked on their Father's Day cards yesterday. When I was little, my mom helped my sister and I made these cute little shirt/tie cards. Inside, we filled in the blanks as to what we knew about our Dad. I pulled out my card yesterday to use as a pattern for cards for Grandpas this year. It was hilarious to read. I think it said something to the effect of "My Dad is 31 years old and weighs 16 pounds". ;) I thought it would be fun for my dad to get another card like that from his grand kids, 22 years later!
This one is for Grandpa Jerry (Grandpa Nelson). He is 17 years old, according to Dallin. If they didn't know an answer, I had them think of one they thought would fit best.

They each made a picture to add inside the card, lots of stickers were involved with Aaron's masterpieces. Then I stapled it all together like a little book.

Kaylee's thumbprint contribution.

The finished product! I really didn't feel like fighting with blogger tonight when they kept rotating my picture. Oh well, you get the picture.

We made some little things for the Daddy of our home as well, but he checks the blog... so we can't post those :)

To make your own, just draw this shape on a piece of folded paper. There you go, a pattern!

Cake Mix Cookies

I made cake mix cookies a couple of years ago for the boys after seeing the recipe online. I used a funfetti mix, slid popcicle sticks into the bottom of each cookie dough ball, then baked. Cookie pops! They liked them, but would have been just as happy with cookies minus the sticks, lol. You can use ANY cake mix and any add-ins you want! A pouch of dry cookie mix is $1.50+ . Cake mix is under $1, and makes more cookies per batch! I like that it only uses 1/2 c. butter vs. most cookie recipes that call for 1 c. Even more budget friendly. I've seen recipes that use 1/3 c. oil instead of butter too.
Here is a recipe! One of many out there. As usual, it is from allrecipes.com.
1 box cake mix (any variety)
2 eggs
1/2 c. butter, softened
1 c. chocolate chips, any variety
Beat all ingredients together until moist and dough forms. Scoop cookie dough into tablespoon sized balls and place on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake @ 350 for 10 minutes. Cool 2 minutes on sheet, then transfer to a wire rack. Makes 3 1/2 dozen.
The cookies in the picture are devil's food with white chocolate chips.

Yep, that's right...more shoes!

My friend, Lisa, ordered a little pair of shoes from me that she is sending to her little nephew. I don't think he has even been born yet, but he needed a pair of shoes to match an outfit that he will be wearing to a wedding this summer. The outfit was a colorful plaid shirt with a navy sweater vest and khaki pants. I thought I'd try corduroy this time. Derrick suggested doing a stripe of blue corduroy up the front and I think they turned out cute. They can be his church shoes. And because they are so fun to make, I made him a little bonus pair for every day wear, lol.
