Birthday Boy BINGO

Dallin is the new kid in the 3rd grade. We just moved here and are in the same situation that we were in the year Dallin turned 5. No friends and no time to make friends before his birthday since it is in the beginning of the school year. So we end up doing a small family party. Which is fine! But I thought it would be fun to do something special for him.

His school has asked that no sugary treats be sent in...ever. Wow, not even birthdays? So his teacher, Mr. Pitts, told parents that we could come in on our child's birthday and play a game with the class, send in a healthy treat, or donate something for the classroom. I thought I would do 2 out of 3 of those ideas by doing a game and snack. Now I'm sure that there are healthier options than goldfish crackers, but this is one of Dallin's favorite snacks and it is low in sugar. Better than a cupcake and frosting, I am sure. I put out a FB status update asking friends for BINGO marker ideas. I received many great suggestions and wanted to find something individually packaged so these were perfect.

Since he is the new kid, I thought I'd create a BINGO game all about him! Last year I would go in and help out during class parties and his 2nd grade class LOVED playing BINGO. Just the basic version with the boring numbers. So I thought this might be fun.

I created a grid using Microsoft Word and copied/pasted it over and over until I had 16 of them. Then I started randomly filling in the spaces with key words about Dallin and copy/pasting those in different spots on each card. It was tedious, but only took about an hour to make these.

I made a key for myself with the facts about Dallin. I think the kids will have fun getting to know this special kid, sharing his birthday with him, and switching up the schedule at school for a bit.

Stay tuned for the extra special birthday treat that I am making my little guy this year! With not being able to access ANY of my cake decorating supplies, I had to switch things up a bit and am excited to see how it turns out!

  1. Hey that's a really great way to introduce him to the class. My kids school has a ban on any homemade food. It must be sealed in it's original bag, I"m wondering what happened for this to be the case.
